CAMILLE STORM PRES. THE PLAYLIST

the-playlist-1

Hey guys,  so as you guys may have noticed I’ve written extensively about #NuNairobi( the artistic revolution currently occurring in my city)- on this blog and on other publications as well. Well a few months ago I was approached with the idea to curate an event based on the #NuNairobi scene as it blows up and continues to manifest itself to the world . I was really skeptical because let’s be honest, I’m a lot of things but  I wasn’t an event organizer; but after a period of thought I decided to give it a go! Anything that can help in the growth of the culture and scene seems not only worthwhile but necessary at this point in time.

PYRONAIRO: THE BIRTH OF A MOVEMENT

In the past year alone, the underground music scene in Nairobi has been bursting with so much talent and ingenuity. It has many hidden gems  who you may not necessarily hear on the radio or see on television. You just need to know where to look.

PyroNairo might be a hashtag you’ve seen one someone’s Facebook presumptuously as they post a link to a song, but do you really know what it means? The term “Pyro” itself means something related to fire. I know it sounds corny but when you listen to music being put out you can be assured that it’s nothing less than flames.

Tetu Shani just released a new song and I’m excited as hell! When he first told me he was working on new stuff with Jinku, a producer associated more with electronic music, I was a bit surprised but also eager to hear how they would blend their sounds together. “Chemistry” is the result of this collaboration and it  features the beautiful songstress, Mayonde, who lends her soulful vocals to the track.  The sweet, steady-building love song is calming with it’s romantic guitar notes and soul-baring lyrics. CURATED BY CAMILLE PLAYLIST 005 NRBI EDITION

So much amazing music brewing from Nairobi right now ! I’ve compiled a little playlist just for you to get a taste of the scene out here! I love chilling with artists and seeing them do their thing in the studio, and I’ve witnessed the process of some of these songs being made. It’s truly inspiring to watch these young creatives do what they love with so much vigor and passion. Don’t rely on the radio to hear fresh , new and alternative Kenyan music. I always say, Soundcloud is the plug!

INTRODUCING: M³

First of all, JOE KAY needs to get hold of this guy’s music and play like three of his songs on Soulection as soon as possible. (I’m gonna spam him on twitter if I need to seriously). I feel like some of his music would fit right in there. The world ain’t even ready for M³ . I am so so so appalled by this young artist’s ability to compose music which is  so freakin’ classy,  and up-to-standard. Perhaps his proficiency at creating and arranging music is aided by the fact that he’s a multi-instrumentalist, combine that with natural talent and a young musician’s zeal and you have a bomb waiting to explode.
