ALBUM REVIEW: RIVER TIBER – INDIGO

It’s interesting how these days a lot of the music I listen to is by Canadian artists. 60 % of my playlist is made up of artists such as Kaytranada, Pomo, BADBADNOTGOOD, dvsn, Majid Jordan etc and those are just the well known ones! The Canadian music scene has officially blown up and I’m totally here for it! Another artist who’s been everywhere lately is River Tiber. You might recognize him from Kaytranada’s LP “99.9%” in the song “Vivid Dreams”, but now we can get a glimpse of his own mind in his debut E.P “Indigo”.

NEW MUSIC: KALI UCHIS – ONLY GIRL FT STEVE LACY AND VINCE STAPLES

Kali Uchis is back at it  with a new track ” Only Girl” ft Vince Staples and (wait for it…..) STEVE LACY. I mean even though this is Kali’s song, I’m telling you guys Steve Lacy is the future of music . I’m so glad he’s slowly breaking out of the underground and making his presence felt in the industry.. he’s only 17 and is literally one of my favorite artists right now. He has outstanding potential and I can’t wait to watch him grow to the successful artist he’s going to end up being.  But anyway, this song is produced by Kaytranada (who’s album I can’t wait to drop omg May 6th) and it has a very catchy and urban vibe.. slightly different from the type of stuff on Kali’s EP “Por Vida”. Either way I’ve had this joint on replay all morning, check it out !

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: KALI UCHIS

I first came across this Colombian beauty on tumblr a few months ago but I didn’t know she made music I just thought she was really cyber ghetto and all but then later I found out she’s actually a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer and director… and she’s 21 years old! That’s pretty impressive if you ask me.  Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: THE INTERNET -EGO DEATH

I must say, I’ve not always been a big fan of The Internet. I liked songs here and there but never really got to that point where I could say that I fuck with their music heavy. But after this album you can definitely  count me in as a fan. I’ve officially been sucked into the whirlwind of soul and acid- jazz that this band exudes.

“Ego Death” starts on an edgier, more confident note with the song “Get Away” with it’s extra sexual and direct lyrics. I’m a super R&B fan, but the really really soulful kind, so I tend to listen to more 90’s stuff. I just feel like the  music was realer, and more straight forward back then. With the Internet , they kind of bring back that feeling , they don’t over-complicate their lyrics, and Syd’s delicate and sensuous voice relaxes your nerves and creates a wonderful sultry atmosphere. In my opinion the best part of their music, is the instrumentation , I mean , they are a band! The ambiance induced by the blend of each instrument is overwhelming and impressive.
