Hey guys, so as you guys may have noticed I’ve written extensively about #NuNairobi( the artistic revolution currently occurring in my city)- on this blog and on other publications as well. Well a few months ago I was approached with the idea to curate an event based on the #NuNairobi scene as it blows up and continues to manifest itself to the world . I was really skeptical because let’s be honest, I’m a lot of things but I wasn’t an event organizer; but after a period of thought I decided to give it a go! Anything that can help in the growth of the culture and scene seems not only worthwhile but necessary at this point in time.
When Just a Band announced their 2 year hiatus earlier this year, a lot of fans were reasonably devastated. Blinky Bill promised a debut solo album titled ” “Everyone’s Just Winging It & Other Fly Tales” by the end of the year but a day after his birthday on August 26th he surprised us with a free E.P which was uploaded to Soundcloud and Bandcamp.
I don’t know why I’ve taken so long to review this album yet it’s one I’ve been bumping on repeat for months now! Perhaps I thought this band is a little too indie for my blog , but it’s good music so why not! Mothxr (pronounced as Mother) is an indie rock band based in Brooklyn, New York. I’ve posted about them before but they released their debut album , Centerfold, in February.
You know it still feels like “Ultraviolence” was released a week ago, it still sounds so fresh every time I listen to it and yet Lana is already back with a new album. I wasn’t at all ready for this. When she randomly released the title track “Honeymoon” I didn’t really know what to expect of the entire album to come. The song is typical Lana , a blue-eyed soul ballad with very dark and self-deprecating lyrics but she later surprised us when she released the first single of the album “High by the beach”, which has a trap-pop beat and somewhat laid back lyrics.
So I’m doing a first listen review for this. Which means basically I’m writing this as I listen to the album. I might start doing this more often because sometimes I’m just too lazy to describe everything in depth and I just wanna write like a fan!
Beauty Behind the Madness is The Weeknd’s sophomore album which is actually being released tomorrow(Aug 28) lol. I’m just always on top of things like that! The album has a powerful start with the stunning ballad , “Real life” which captures your heart immediately with it’s sincere lyrics and aggressive beats.
