It’s that time of the year again guys! Damn, this year has flown by real quick hasn’t it? I didn’t even have time to properly analyze all the music that’s been released this year. I’m writing this while on vacation so forgive me if this piece seems a bit rushed. Anyway, I think 2016 was a quite an incredible year for music. Although I feel underwhelmed by some releases, generally the music released was stellar. If you’re expecting to find Drake, Rihanna, Beyonce or Kanye West on this list then you’re on the wrong list. I’m only mentioning the LPs that really stood out to me and that I feel came out at significant points of these artists’ careers.
First of all, JOE KAY needs to get hold of this guy’s music and play like three of his songs on Soulection as soon as possible. (I’m gonna spam him on twitter if I need to seriously). I feel like some of his music would fit right in there. The world ain’t even ready for M³ . I am so so so appalled by this young artist’s ability to compose music which is so freakin’ classy, and up-to-standard. Perhaps his proficiency at creating and arranging music is aided by the fact that he’s a multi-instrumentalist, combine that with natural talent and a young musician’s zeal and you have a bomb waiting to explode.
So much talent goes unnoticed or under-appreciated in Kenya and I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t listen to local music as much as I probably should but quality stuff always catches my ear . Lately I’ve been hearing incredible music that only proves how promising our industry is. I’m writing this because I’m pretty much fed up of our artists being slept on! Like is that still a thing? If you get on soundcloud and listen to what some of these guys are creating, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Here’s a few of the Kenyan artists who I think you should be listening to right now.
2015 was an epic year for music, and even though I’m a hip-hop head I found myself gravitating towards other genres and other styles a bit more this year(with no regrets). I’ve listened to some amazing music this year and I can’t wait for what 2016 has in store for us!
Note: Today is the anniversary of the day this blog was created, 30th Dec 2011. Happy anniversary to us!
Here’s a list of some the best remixes I’ve ever heard. This list ranges from songs released in the 90’s to even last year. It’s an ordered list even though I don’t really think I can rank some of these songs. Some of them are remarkable and just timeless. I’m sure many of you will recognize them because they were really poppin’ when they were first released and even the really old ones are still jams. What’s weird is a lot of names are repeated on this list, guess some artists just really know how to do a remix!
Here’s another random list of albums which are being released later this year which I can’t wait to listen to.Some of them actually don’t have confirmed release dates but the world is hoping that they are released some time later this year. This list might be long af lol
