FKA Twigs just released her new five track E.P “M3LL155X” complete with a mind blowing  16-minute music video with visuals for four songs as well as abstract artwork.

Twigs’ third E.P begins with the powerful “Figure 8″ which kind of introduces us to this new sound that she is experimenting with. This song is heavy and the strength in her voice blends perfectly with the industrial sounds incorporated into the mesmerizing indie-tronic production.

Although it also has very loud and aggressive production, “I’m Your Doll”  loses momentum for me simply because after hearing “Figure 8″ , the industrial sounds in this song seem overdone and it’s just a bit over the top and unnecessary in some parts.  “In Time” is quite the statement .She abandons her quintessential breathy vocals for a  catchy rap-singing style that I really  REALLY love . This is probably my favorite record off this project.  Her anger and pain is seeping through and  you can’t ignore it. She’s putting it right in your face this time around and I have to say I’m loving this approach a bit better.

The electronic elements in this E.P are enthralling and although when coupled with industrial sounds it may sound a little noisy, her soft voice kind of evens it out. I’m not surprised at the commanding edge of this E.P considering it was mostly produced by BOOTS, who is known best for his work on Beyonce’s self titled album.

“Mothercreep” is another song which is slightly hard to comprehend but you can tell by the end of the E.P that she wanted to do something different and that she was heavily invested into making this an incredibly liberating and intense project. In this E.P she claims to have been taken over  by “Melissa”, a more energetic version of the Twigs we all know and love. I don’t know guys, do you like Melissa better? I’m on the fence with this one lol.

TCW RATING: 4/5
