Oh yes! I’ve been really pumped up about this one. “In Colour” is the debut solo effort by Jamie xx from the British indie-pop band, The xx. Now The xx is that band I like to listen to while I’m chilling in my room , aimlessly browsing through tumblr looking for depression quotes and stuff but this LP is far from depressing. It’s definitely looking the album of the summer for me right now. Jamie, who is well known for producing Drake’s endearing duet with Rihanna “Take Care”, asserts his individual ability yet again in this LP. With it he creates a rich amalgamation of future garage, trip hop, house and electronic.
To me this should be Kanye West ft. Vic Mensa lol. Don’t get me wrong, this video is really entertaining but this just sounds and looks like a Kanye West song. Generic trap beats ,mediocre bars and Vic Mensa actually let Kanye overshadow him in his own song. It seems like he went to the studio and just did what Kanye wanted. The video is aggressive and unusual and I’ve seen many youtube comments saying they’re only watching it to see Kanye. If the attention is what you wanted Vic, then there you have it but I’m not impressed! #Rule 1 don’t change your style to try and get more fans, why? You might end up losing your die hard fans in the process and also, we already have one Kanye we don’t need two.
My relationship with this German born producer and DJ is really funky. A few years ago I was tweeting “What is a Zedd?” and now I’m such a huge fan of his work. When he dropped his sophomore LP, “True Colors” , I couldn’t wait to hear his growth from debut album “Clarity” which in itself gained him millions of fans and made him a house-hold name in Electronic Dance music today.
If you’re a fan of Drake, then you might consider checking out who many say is his musical doppelganger right here. Kyle! Formerly known as K.i.D(Kyle is Determined), Kyle is a singer/rapper from Ventura, California. The moment I heard him the influence of Drake in his music hit me like a truck. From the emotional lyrics to the sweetly sung hooks …even their flow is similar. But with his latest works he’s been trying to cross over to his own gleeful “pop”-ish sound and style and that seems to be working out as he has gained a massive fan base now. His rap style is also similar to that of Chance the Rapper and Childish Gambino. But let’s quit with all the comparisons for one sec, just check him out and perceive for yourself.I think he’s super duper cool! 😉

I recently got to interview my favorite member of Just A Band, Daniel Muli. They are the electronic music and arts collective known world wide for songs like “Hahe” and “Probably for lovers”. Just back from a big show in Abu Dhabi, he gave me the 4-1-1 on his personal experiences, interests and a little insight on the band’s upcoming projects.

Earl Sweatshirt is angry. That’s understandable given what he’s gone through. His rise to stardom as part of the “indie-rap” skate rap collective Odd Future as his experience when he was sent for a term in a Samoan School for troubled youths immediately after his stellar mixtape “EARL”.
