Hey guys. What have you guys been up to? As for me, I’ve just been , you know, constantly searching for good music to share with you guys and stuff haha. It’s always a thrill for me to discover new talent and this time I think I found someone all you real hip hop lovers will adore.
I caught up with R.I.Z.E , an upcoming rapper who’s flow, eloquence and content will leave you stunned. I’ve waited a LONG time to hear a lyricist like this come out of Nairobi because as y’all know, I focus on more on lyrics than anything else. If we share the same taste then you will absolutely spaz out when you hear what R.I.Z.E ( which stands for Reaching Impassable Zenith Elevations) has in store for you. In his song “Thanks I Get” he spits insightful rhymes over a soulful 9th Wonder production which features a sample from the legendary Bobby Womack. This is a different school of rap than most Kenyans are used to hearing , and that’s what I love most about it. He seems keen on changing the game and I want a front row seat in watching it all go down.
Here’s a little more on what R.I.Z.E had to say about his music.
Q: When did you start rapping?
A: I started writing when I was like 7 so that’s around 2003. I started recording just recently like last year.
Q:How would you describe your music?
A: It’s rap but elaborate and what makes it different from other rappers out there is that it’s raw, lyrical and I rarely spit anything without meaning behind it. A lot of my bars can go over the head of a common listener .
Q: Who are your influences?
A: Mobb Deep, Andre 3000, Cyhi da Prynce, Big K.R.I.T, King Los e.t.c.
Q: What more can we expect from you?
A: I’m dropping an EP by August.
Q: What audience are you trying to reach with your music?
A: Hip hop heads, and everyone who likes good music in general. There are some songs I’ve recorded that even grown folks would enjoy.
So there you have it, words from a rapper who claims to be his own favorite genre . Check him out and he might just end up being yours as well.
